Malaysia: Opens Certification for 3600-3650 MHz IMT Devices

Home / Country Update / Malaysia: Opens Certification for 3600-3650 MHz IMT Devices

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has issued a new Standard Radio System Plan enabling certification of communications equipment in the 3600 MHz to 3650 MHz frequency band. Published on 14 April 2026 under Announcement Ref. No. SQASI/CMCS/1/26/008, MCMC SRSP MS 3600 sets out the technical requirements manufacturers and importers must meet before equipment operating in this band can be certified in Malaysia. The update extends Malaysia’s IMT-2020 spectrum framework into a previously unaddressed frequency range. For companies bringing 5G and IMT equipment into the Malaysian market, understanding these new requirements is essential to maintaining certification and market access.

What the New SRSP MS 3600 Covers

MCMC SRSP MS 3600, titled Requirements for International Mobile Telecommunications Systems Operating in the Frequency Band of 3600 MHz to 3650 MHz, establishes the technical parameters for equipment operating in this range. The plan was issued on 14 April 2026 and now allows communications equipment in the 3600 MHz to 3650 MHz band to move forward for certification in Malaysia, provided it fully complies with the requirements set out in the SRSP.

Certification Requirements for the 3600-3650 MHz Band

Equipment certification in this frequency band is not governed by SRSP MS 3600 alone. MCMC has confirmed the SRSP must be read together with the Thirty-First Schedule of the Class Assignment No. 2 of 2025, as well as the applicable requirements in MCMC MTSFB TC T016:2021, the IMT-2020 (Fifth Generation) User Equipment Technical Code. Manufacturers and importers should review all three documents together to confirm full compliance before submitting equipment for certification.

No Change to Existing Certification Procedures

MCMC has clarified that all other certification requirements remain unchanged under this update. This includes applications for Self-Labelling and Import Permits, which continue to be governed by the existing certification requirements and procedures already in place.
