MobiFone has officially launched its 5G mobile network, becoming the third telecom provider in Vietnam to commercialize 5G services. With speeds reaching up to 1.5 Gbps—up to 15 times faster than 4G—the new network is set to significantly enhance connectivity and support Vietnam’s broader digital transformation goals.
Initially available in key urban centers, the network operates in the 3.800–3.900 MHz band using both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) 5G architectures. No SIM change is required for current 4G users with compatible smartphones.
Focus on Priority Sectors and Enterprise Solutions
To serve enterprise and government clients, MobiFone has introduced over 100 5G-driven products and solutions targeting eight strategic sectors:
- Industrial manufacturing
- Smart cities
- Energy
- Agriculture
- Healthcare
- Education
- Smart transportation
- Smart tourism
Examples of implementation include AI-powered camera systems for smart tourism and traffic, and a private 5G network at Vicem Hoang Mai Cement Joint Stock Company.
Vietnam’s 5G Expansion Gains Momentum
Vietnam officially entered the 5G era in late 2024, and MobiFone’s entry marks a new milestone. As of early 2025:
- Viettel leads with 5.5 million 5G users
- VNPT has extended 5G to all 63 provinces and major airports, serving 3 million users
- MobiFone is now accelerating its deployment, with plans for nationwide coverage
The Vietnamese government is backing this momentum. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has underscored 5G as a national priority tied to achieving an 8% economic growth target by 2025. In support, the National Assembly has approved funding to offset 15% of equipment costs for telecom providers that install at least 20,000 5G base stations by the end of 2025.
