On October 15, Viettel officially activated the first 5G network throughout Vietnam on the occasion of its 20th anniversary of providing its mobile service, Viettel Mobile. By that, it became the very first company offering commercial 5G services across the country. Deputy Minister of National Defense Pham Hoai Nam and Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Pham Duc Long joined in this important event.
Role of 5G in Economic and Technological Transformation
According to Chairman Tao Duc Thang of Viettel, such rapid rollout represents the determination of keeping Vietnam on the frontline in the commercialization of 5G all over the world. The launch of a 5G network by Viettel hopes to drive effective growth in many fields, such as manufacturing, education, healthcare, and logistics, enhancing Vietnam’s competitive position in the world.
The new 5G from Viettel boasts speeds between 700 Mbps and 1 Gbps, a magnitude tenfold higher than 4G, thanks to its near-zero latency. These are deployed using the Non-Standalone Architecture NSA and Standalone Architecture SA of the technology. In these aspects, the standalone 5G network has ultra-low latency at about 1 ms, which is required for advanced applications such as autonomous cars, remote surgery, and smart factories.
