The authority has revised the validity period for newly issued type approval certificates, shifting from indefinite validity to a one year term. This update directly affects manufacturers, importers, and local representatives seeking approval for telecommunications and radio equipment intended for the Venezuelan market.
One Year Validity for New Certificates
Under the revised policy, all new type approval certificates issued by CONATEL will now carry a validity period of one year. After this period, certificate holders will need to pursue renewal in order to maintain market authorization.
This change reflects a move toward more active regulatory oversight and periodic compliance review. By limiting validity, the authority gains greater control to reassess equipment conformity against current technical requirements and regulatory conditions.
No Impact on Existing Certificates
Importantly, the update does not apply retroactively. Certificates issued under the previous regime, which granted indefinite validity, will remain valid indefinitely.
