Testing Military Compatibility
The main goal of this 5G trial is to see how well it works alongside current military communication systems. Given the ongoing challenges in the region, it’s important that the new 5G network doesn’t interfere with military operations. The pilot will happen in two phases, with support from the National Commission for State Regulation of Communications (NKEK) and the Ukrainian State Radio Frequency Center.
Frequency Updates and Rollout Plan
To make the testing possible, the government has updated some of its rules on radio frequency use:
- The 2100 MHz frequency can now be used for 2G, 3G, and 4G technologies.
- Frequencies in the 694-862 MHz range, which used to be for television, will now be available for mobile communication.
These updates will make it easier to use network resources more flexibly, improving the quality and reach of mobile services across the country.
The pilot program is expected to lay the foundation for a broader 5G rollout by 2030. With data speeds up to ten times faster than 4G, 5G will bring new opportunities for innovation, support for data-heavy applications, and better infrastructure.
