The highly anticipated REACH (KKDIK) Regulation was published in the Turkey Official Gazette late last year in December 2023.
This amendment, officially titled “Regulation Amending the Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals,” marks a huge update in Turkey in the regulatory landscape for chemicals.
Extension Overview
The recently published amendment brings official extensions to the registration deadlines for substances either manufactured in or imported into Turkey. These extensions are categorized based on tonnage and hazard classification:
- By December 31, 2026, for substances manufactured or imported at ≥1,000 tones per annum (t/a), substances classified as Aquatic Acute 1 and Aquatic Chronic 1 (H400, H410) at ≥100 t/a, and CMR substances (Category 1A and 1B) at ≥1 t/a.
- By December 31, 2028, for substances falling within the 100 – 1,000 t/a range.
- By December 31, 2030, for substances falling within the 1 – 100 t/a range.
These revisions grant companies extended timelines to align with KKDIK regulations, offering relief from immediate compliance pressures and allowing for more comprehensive preparation and the implementation of requisite measures.
