Trinidad & Tobago’s Telecommunications Authority has initiated a consultation on new cybersecurity guidelines aimed at public telecommunications and broadcasting operators. This effort aligns with the Telecommunications Act, Chap. 47:31, and is part of the country’s approach to reinforcing data security measures for consumers and safeguarding against cyber threats.
Main Points of the Consultation
The consultation focuses on the document titled Guidelines for Cybersecurity of Public Telecommunications Networks and Broadcasting Facilities, which outlines the following objectives:
- Cybersecurity Policies: Details the foundational cybersecurity policies and frameworks currently guiding Trinidad & Tobago’s telecom and broadcasting sectors.
- Standards and Recommendations: Highlights relevant standards from regional and global authorities applicable to local network operators.
- Protective Measures: Advises on specific practices for operators to safeguard networks and customer information.
Call for Public Input
The Authority encourages stakeholders, industry professionals, and the general public to review and comment on the proposed guidelines by December 13, 2024. Feedback can be submitted in accordance with the Authority’s Procedures for Consultation in the Telecommunications and Broadcasting Sectors of Trinidad and Tobago (ver. 7.0, 2021), accessible on the Authority’s website.
