Trinidad and Tobago: Consultation on Spectrum Plan for Non-Terrestrial Networks Begins

The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) has opened a consultation for its “Spectrum Plan for the Accommodation of Non-Terrestrial Networks” (NTN). This plan aims to allocate and manage the use of the 2 GHz frequency band for NTN services, covering operations in stations, ships, aircraft, and satellites registered in the country.

Key Objectives of the Spectrum Plan

  • Frequency Assignment for NTN Services: The plan prescribes principles for frequency planning and the assignment of spectrum to operators in the 2 GHz band.
  • Coexistence with Other Services: Ensures NTNs can operate alongside public mobile services in the 1900 MHz band and advanced wireless services (AWS).
  • Licensing Process: Outlines the steps and conditions required for spectrum licensing, including specific operating standards for radiocommunication systems.

Frequency Allocation and Spectrum Caps

The plan identifies the 2 GHz S-band for NTN operations and details spectrum caps to ensure fair distribution and effective coexistence with other telecommunication services. It also provides a framework for addressing both global and national market needs, including supporting the growth of NTN services in Trinidad and Tobago.

Key Objectives of the Spectrum Plan

To ensure compliance, the plan specifies technical conditions and licensing criteria for operating NTNs. Interested parties are encouraged to review the document and submit feedback by October 29, 2024, in line with the country’s established consultation procedures.
