Initial Consultation and Key Findings

In 2023, URCA engaged with stakeholders to assess the demand for high-speed broadband and 5G services. The consultation revealed key insights:

  • End-User Priorities: Focus on reliable internet with decent speeds.
  • Main Future Use Cases: Enhancements in tourism, national security, and law enforcement.
  • Operator Perspective: 5G seen as a natural evolution to increase network capacity, with the need for a supportive regulatory environment.

Next Steps for 5G Deployment

URCA is now collaborating with the government and industry stakeholders to address the remaining regulatory and policy challenges that may hinder the 5G deployment. This involves conducting consultations and stakeholder meetings to refine the proposed 5G framework. Once these issues are resolved and input is gathered from all relevant parties, URCA will finalize the comprehensive roadmap that will guide the rollout of 5G services across The Bahamas. The aim is to ensure a smooth and effective implementation of this next-generation technology, promoting national connectivity and supporting future innovation.

Invitation for Public Feedback
