Thailand: NBTC Calls for Registration of Wireless Network Video Recorders

Home / Country Update / Thailand: NBTC Calls for Registration of Wireless Network Video Recorders

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand has issued a formal request urging manufacturers, importers, and operators to register wireless network video recorders (Wireless NVRs) that operate on Radio Local Area Networks (RLANs). This move aims to enhance oversight and prevent interference with the 2600 MHz mobile network frequencies.

Strengthening Oversight of Wireless NVRs

The NBTC emphasizes that effective regulation of Wireless NVRs is critical to maintaining spectrum integrity, particularly due to their operation within the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands. These frequencies are commonly used for wireless communications, and unregulated equipment can cause harmful interference with licensed mobile services.

To that end, the NBTC is requesting cooperation from all relevant parties to comply with existing standards before introducing these products to the Thai market.

Certification Requirement and Legal Framework

Operators must submit a registration application for any Wireless NVRs that fall under this category. This process is grounded in the following regulatory instruments:

  • NBTC Announcement MOI 1035-2019: Establishes technical standards for telecommunications and radiocommunications equipment operating in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency bands.

  • NBTC Regulation B.E. 2565 (2022), Section 35: Outlines the requirements for the inspection and certification of telecommunications equipment by the NBTC.

Manufacture or import of Wireless NVRs must not proceed without obtaining this certification. The goal is to ensure all products meet local compliance standards and can be verified by consumers as lawful and safe to use.

This announcement was made in October 2025.
