Starting January 29, 2025, Sri Lanka’s Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRCSL) will enforce a new system requiring the registration of International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers for all SIM-enabled devices. Devices that are not registered will be blocked from local networks, ensuring better control over mobile devices within the country. Devices already connected before January 28, 2025, will be exempt from this requirement.

To verify whether your device is registered, simply send an SMS to 1909 in the format “IMEI <space> <15-digit IMEI number>”. This new measure aims to enhance security and prevent the use of unregistered devices on local networks.
