The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) is set to reopen applications for Community Sound Broadcasting Service licenses in December 2024.
Following a successful licensing round in 2022/2023, where five new licenses were awarded, ICASA will again offer licenses for community sound broadcasting services and the related Radio Frequency Spectrum licenses. The process will start with an Invitation to Pre-Register, and a virtual workshop that was held on July 18, 2024, to assist prospective applicants.
ICASA remains dedicated to empowering communities through these licenses. They provide crucial platforms for local voices, allowing communities to access tailored news, entertainment, and discussions relevant to their lives. By facilitating community broadcasting, ICASA supports the creation of media that reflects local interests and issues, fosters local talent, and strengthens community cohesion.
