Singapore: Mobile Networks Plan to Retire 3G Services

The IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority) of Singapore is making big changes in the mobile world.

On July 27, 2023, IMDA made a groundbreaking announcement: 3G services will end on July 31, 2024. Here’s what you need to know: 

  • Starting November 1, 2023: IMDA stops accepting new registrations and renewals for 3G-only mobile phones and non-VoLTE capable smartphones. 
  • Effective February 1, 2024: Sale of 3G-only mobile phones and non-VoLTE capable smartphones for local use will be prohibited. IMDA will invalidate registrations of such equipment by February 1, 2024. 
  • From July 31, 2024, onwards: 3G networks and services will cease in Singapore.
