The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), along with major mobile network operators Singtel Mobile, StarHub Mobile, and M1 Limited, are ceasing 3G networks and services in Singapore soon on July 31, 2024.
Requirements for Manufacturers
After Feb 1, 2024, IMDA de-registered approved registrations for these devices, and their sale for local use was prohibited. Only dealers with a Dealer’s Individual License from IMDA may import or offer these devices for export purposes or overseas use, under specific license conditions.
Handset suppliers must update their listings to include devices with 3G fallback capabilities. They should cease sales of incompatible handsets and inform consumers via website listings. Additionally, suppliers must verify functionality with manufacturers and had to report to IMDA by June 30, 2024.
Regulatory Compliance
Non-compliance with these regulations may result in the deregistration of equipment. Selling unregistered equipment is illegal under the Telecommunications Regulations. Suppliers must ensure their products meet the necessary standards to avoid legal repercussions.
