On July 5, 2024, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines issued Memorandum Circular No. 002-07-2024.
Key Updates
Frequency Bands and Power Limits
- The circular adds new frequency bands and specifies power limits for the 5925–6425 MHz and 17.1–17.3 GHz ranges. These bands, previously less detailed or unregulated, are now clearly defined.
- Notably, the use of the 5925–6425 MHz band is prohibited for unmanned aircraft systems (drones). Additionally, the regulations now distinguish between indoor and outdoor use.
Wi-Fi 6E Approval
- The new regulations permit the use of the 5925–6425 MHz band for indoor and low-power outdoor High-Performance Radio Local Area Network (HIPERLAN) and Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) applications.
- This approval includes Wi-Fi 6E, enhancing wireless connectivity options in the region.
Implementation Date
- The updated regulations will come into effect on July 20, 2024, and will amend the previous guidelines outlined in Memorandum Circular No. 03-05-2007.
These changes reflect the NTC’s effort to modernize wireless technology regulations and accommodate emerging technologies while ensuring effective spectrum management.
