Mexico: Updates to Homologation Guidelines and IFT Seal for Telecommunications Devices

Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has introduced significant modifications to its homologation guidelines, impacting products in the telecommunications and broadcasting industries. These changes focus on improving labeling requirements for approved devices, providing a clearer way for consumers to recognize compliant products.

IFT Seal Implementation

Starting July 1, 2025, a new IFT Seal will be mandatory for all approved telecommunications devices in Mexico. This seal is designed to be a clear, recognizable graphic element that ensures consumers can easily identify compliant products. It aims to provide confidence that the devices meet national standards and are approved for use on local networks or the radio spectrum.

Expanded Labeling Options

The recent amendments allow for more flexible labeling methods, including:

  • Printed, digital, or reproduced markings on the product
  • Options to display the IFT Seal in user manuals (physical or electronic) for small devices
  • Considerations for size, color, and the ability to display electronic labels.

These expanded options aim to simplify compliance for manufacturers while maintaining clear visibility for consumers.

Public Consultation and Industry Feedback

The modifications reflect input from the public consultation held between June and August 2023, addressing concerns raised by industry stakeholders. This feedback played a crucial role in shaping the guidelines, ensuring that both physical and electronic labeling methods are feasible for all types of devices.
