Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has opened a public consultation on a proposed adjustment to the effective date of its seal guidelines for approved telecom and broadcasting products. The IFT is encouraging feedback from manufacturers, importers, distributors, and other interested parties to ensure the updated regulation reflects the needs of the industry and remains transparent throughout its development.

Proposed Change to Implementation Timeline
Under the current draft, the enforcement date for the mandatory use of the IFT Seal would be moved to July 1, 2027. This seal must appear on all certified telecommunications or broadcasting devices and equipment approved for sale in Mexico. The adjustment would give businesses additional time to prepare for the requirement and align the regulation with broader constitutional reforms aimed at simplifying government processes.
Purpose of the Draft Agreement
The proposed amendment is designed to give the industry more certainty and ensure a smoother rollout of the IFT Seal guidelines. Specifically, the draft aims to:
- Delay the seal enforcement deadline to July 1, 2027
- Maintain availability of the official IFT Seal vector file during the interim
- Provide clarity for manufacturers, marketers, distributors, and importers of regulated devices
Call for Public Feedback
The IFT has invited public comments to help refine the proposal and identify any potential impacts of the delayed timeline by May 2, 2025. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their opinions or suggestions during the consultation period. This effort is part of IFT’s commitment to improving regulatory outcomes through open dialogue and stakeholder engagement.
