On January 20, 2025, Malaysia’s Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) released Class Assignments No. 1 for 2025, outlining a set of devices that are eligible for use under class assignments without requiring an application. These devices are subject to specific conditions outlined in the class assignment and importantly, no fees are required for class assignments, and they remain valid until canceled by the MCMC.

Details of Class Assignments
Class assignments provide the rights to use certain frequencies for specific devices, but they are not guaranteed protection from radio frequency interference. The devices under class assignments must be certified by the MCMC or its registered certifying agencies.
Examples of Devices under Class Assignment:
- Walkie-Talkie (Family Radio System)
- Wireless LAN and Bluetooth devices
- Mobile Wireless Chargers
- Remote Controls
These devices are granted certification under Communications and Multimedia (Technical Standards) Regulations 2000, and can be used without requiring a specific application for permission.
Certification Requirements for Devices
Devices under the class assignment must meet the following certification criteria:
- Compliance Approval (Type Approval): This is granted for devices that meet the established technical standards.
- Special Approval: This approval is for devices used exclusively for specific purposes such as trials, market surveys, research and development, training, or for a specific applicant’s sole use. These devices are subject to conditions like location, technical specifications, or time period.
For any device that falls under class assignment, compliance with the applicable technical standards is essential. A list of these standards can be found on the MCMC’s official website.
Device Categories Under Class Assignments
The class assignments also cover a wide range of device categories, including:
- Mobile and broadband wireless access devices
- Short-range radiocommunication devices
- Trunked radio access devices
- Personal radio service devices
- Cordless telephone devices
In total, there are 25 other types of devices included in the class assignments for 2025.
