On February 10, 2025, the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) announced the availability of testing laboratories for IPv6 compliance in non-Wi-Fi-enabled products. This update, published under announcement SQASI/CMCS/1/25/0001, establishes a clear pathway for full approval of IPv6 cellular equipment and other applicable mediums.
Changes to IPv6 Certification
End of Interim Approval
- The interim approval for IPv6 cellular devices without Wi-Fi and other IPv6-enabled equipment (excluding Ethernet LAN) will expire on July 10, 2025.
- This interim approval will not be extended beyond this date.
Mandatory IPv6 Testing for Full Approval
- After July 10, 2025, full approval will only be granted upon submission of a complete IPv6 test report.
- Certification of Conformity (CoC) renewals will not be accepted unless a test report is provided for SIRIM’s evaluation.
- IPv6 compliance must be demonstrated over cellular interfaces or other applicable mediums.
Testing Requirements for Wi-Fi-Enabled Products
For products with Wi-Fi functionality, testing can be conducted at any accredited IPv6 laboratory. Manufacturers should ensure their testing aligns with SIRIM’s latest certification requirements to avoid delays in approvals.
