The Telecommunications Regulation Commission (TRC) of Jordan has announced a new Type Approval Regulation, set to take effect on September 15, 2024. This regulation includes several significant updates aimed at enhancing compliance and streamlining the approval process for telecommunications equipment.
Key Changes
- Certificate Validity Period: The validity of certificates has been reduced to 1 year.
- Test Report Requirements: All test reports used in Type Approval applications must now be issued by ILAC-accredited laboratories.
- Modification Applications: Changes in brand, product description, manufacturer name, or certificate holder name will require submission of a modification application to TRC. These amendments will not affect the certificate’s validity period. However, changes in model number or technical specifications will require a new application.
- Exempted Products: Certain products remain exempt from Type Approval but can be approved voluntarily. These include printers, laptops, GPS receivers, desktop computers, and more.
- Labeling Requirements: Products must display essential details like Manufacturer Name, Brand, Model, Marketing Name, and IMEI (for cellular devices). Labels must be visible physically on the product, packaging, user manual, or electronically within the device’s operating system.
These updates are designed to ensure a higher level of compliance and quality control for telecommunications products in Jordan.
