Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Informatics (SDPPI) has introduced significant updates to the technical standards governing LTE and 5G networks with the new technical standard NOMOR 352 TAHUN 2024. These changes are designed to enhance the country’s telecommunications infrastructure and ensure that it is equipped to handle the increasing demand for high-speed connectivity.
Frequency Bands
One of the primary updates involves the allocation of new frequency bands. The regulation specifies the addition of bands B28 and B31 for LTE networks, as well as bands n28 and n258 for 5G New Radio (NR). These frequency bands are crucial for expanding network coverage and improving overall connectivity across the nation.
- LTE: New frequency bands B28 and B31 for Subscriber and Base Stations.
- 5G NR: Frequency Range 1 (FR1) and Frequency Range 2 (FR2) include bands n28 and n258.
Key Technologies
In addition to frequency allocation, the updated standards emphasize the implementation of advanced technologies to optimize network performance. Key technologies such as Carrier Aggregation (CA) and Dual Connectivity (DC) are highlighted for their ability to combine multiple frequency bands, thereby increasing data throughput and improving user experience.
- Carrier Aggregation (CA) and Dual Connectivity (DC): Enable higher data throughput by combining multiple frequency bands.
- Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN): Supports a wide range of IoT applications.
- Advanced Modulation Techniques: Includes QAM and QPSK to enhance spectrum efficiency.
