The Ministry of Communications of India has published a draft notification describing the revised rules for telecommunications standards and certification. The draft, which was published on January 29, 2025, is an important revision of the regulatory framework for telecommunications equipment and services. The aim is to simplify the processes, increase compliance and enhance digital implementation.
Aspects of the Draft Rules
The newly proposed rules are meant to replace the Indian Telegraph (Amendment) Rules, 2017 and the existing essential requirements, specifications, and testing requirements shall remain in force until they are amended by further government notifications. Some of the major components of the update:

These updates are a part of India’s continued initiative to upgrade its telecommunications infrastructure and ensure that safety, security and performance are of high standards. When the rules are published in the Official Gazette after a 30-day public consultation, they will come into effect.
