India: Mandatory Security Certification for 5G SMF Begins in 2025

The National Centre for Communication Security (NCCS) under the Department of Telecommunications has announced the launch of Mandatory Security Certification (MSC) for the Session Management Function (SMF) of 5G, effective January 1, 2025. This marks the end of the voluntary certification period, which began on June 1, 2024, and will conclude on December 31, 2024.

Certification Details

Interested parties, including OEMs, importers, dealers, and users of telecom equipment, must now obtain a mandatory security certificate for the 5G SMF. 

  • Voluntary Period: June 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024. 
  • Mandatory Start Date: January 1, 2025. 
  • Application Portal: Submissions for certification can be made through the online platform at MTCTE portal
