China’s National Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA) has announced updates to mandatory product certification standards for household and similar purpose appliances. The revised standard, GB/T 4706.1-2024, replaces GB 4706.1-2005 and introduces updated safety and performance requirements for various products. The new version will be implemented starting August 1, 2026.
Updates to Certification Standards
- Expanded Product Coverage: Standards now integrate safety requirements for products such as portable induction cookers and evaporative cooling fans.
- Revised Implementation Rules: The “Implementation Rules for Compulsory Product Certification – Household and Similar Purpose Equipment” (CNCA-C07-01:2024) have been updated to align with the revised standards.
- Self-Declaration for Specific Products: Electric motor-compressors (product type code 0704) will now use the self-declaration evaluation method. Manufacturers must complete the transition to the new standard within the prescribed timeframe.
Responsibilities for Certification Bodies and Manufacturers
Certification bodies must comply with the updated rules and requirements outlined in the announcement. Also, manufacturers are required to meet self-declaration guidelines as per CNCA Announcement No. 4 of 2021 to ensure compliance with the new standards.
