On November 20, 2025, China’s Certification and Accreditation Administration (CNCA), along with the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), announced a phased transition plan for conformity assessment of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic products. This change accompanies the release of new national standards GB 26572-2025, which will ultimately replace the existing GB/T 26572-2011.
To support manufacturers and importers in adjusting to the updated requirements, the authorities have laid out a multi-year compliance timeline:
From now until December 31, 2025, manufacturers can choose to assess conformity under GB/T 26572-2011, GB/T 26572-2011 with its first amendment, or the new GB 26572-2025.
Between January 1, 2026, and July 31, 2027, only GB/T 26572-2011 (with its first amendment) and GB 26572-2025 will be accepted.
Starting August 1, 2027, all conformity assessments must comply with GB 26572-2025.
Conversion Requirements for Previously Certified Products
For products already assessed under GB/T 26572-2011 and still in production or imported after January 1, 2026, a conversion to either GB/T 26572-2011 with its first amendment or GB 26572-2025 must be completed by January 1, 2027. Products evaluated under the amended 2011 version and continuing after August 1, 2027, may transition to the new 2025 standard through natural processes such as certificate renewals or updates following product changes.
Updated Testing Methods Based on GB/T 39560 Series
Conformity assessments under both the older and newer standards must use the testing methods outlined in the GB/T 39560 series. These methods define the technical procedures for evaluating the presence of restricted hazardous substances, supporting consistency and regulatory alignment across the product lifecycle.
This update signals China’s commitment to refining its environmental and consumer safety regulations, ensuring electrical and electronic products meet increasingly stringent global standards.
