On July 9, 2025, Anatel’s Superintendent of Grants and Spectrum Resources, Vinicius Caram, participated in a public hearing before Brazil’s Chamber Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation. The discussions focused on how to allocate the 6 GHz band between unlicensed Wi‑Fi services and licensed mobile (6G) networks

Proposed Spectrum Allocation
Anatel’s preferred allocation model divides the 6 GHz band as follows :
5.925–6.425 GHz (500 MHz): designated for unlicensed Wi‑Fi (Wi‑Fi 6E/7)
6.425–7.125 GHz (700 MHz): reserved for licensed mobile networks (6G/IMT)
This separation mirrors the approach taken by about 80% of countries during the World Radiocommunications Conference 2023 (WRC‑23)
Technological and Economic Implications
Caram emphasized the need for large contiguous channels (≥200 MHz) to support:
Advanced applications such as holography and industrial AI
Expanded rural and remote coverage, given that roughly 80% of Brazil still lacks broadband access
Additionally, Wi‑Fi will continue to operate on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, including part of the 6 GHz range, supporting channels up to 320 MHz.
Aligning with international norms aims to reduce manufacturing costs for devices and infrastructure and ensure operator competitiveness in Brazil’s market.
