Bolivia: Updated Telecom Equipment Homologation List Released

Home / Country Update / Bolivia: Updated Telecom Equipment Homologation List Released

On January 28, 2026, the Authority for the Regulation and Supervision of Telecommunications and Transport issued an updated List of Telecommunications Equipment Subject to Approval, redefining which devices must undergo mandatory homologation prior to importation and commercialization in Bolivia .

The revision reinforces the national requirement that telecommunications and radio equipment operating in authorized frequency bands must be technically evaluated and approved before entering the Bolivian market.

Expanded Scope of Equipment Subject to Approval

The updated list covers a broad range of telecommunications infrastructure and end user equipment across multiple categories. These include:

  • Telephones, including smartphones, cordless phones, and satellite phones
  • Equipment for television and sound broadcasting, including ISDB-Tb digital television transmitters and receivers
  • Ground station and satellite equipment such as VSAT terminals, satellite modems, and gateways
  • Network infrastructure equipment including routers, ONTs, multiplexers, and core network switches

In particular, the regulation explicitly identifies digital terrestrial television receivers compliant with the ISDB-Tb standard, including variants with HD/FHD/SD resolution, mobile reception capability, interactivity features, and early warning functionality . This confirms that both consumer-facing devices and transmission infrastructure are subject to technical oversight.

Technical Evaluation and Frequency Control

Many of the listed devices operate in regulated frequency bands such as VHF, UHF, microwave bands including 2.5 to 2.7 GHz for MMDS systems, and satellite bands such as Ku and Ka. Equipment such as radio base station transceivers, cellular repeaters, maritime and aeronautical communication systems, and telemetry transmitters must therefore demonstrate compliance with Bolivia’s national frequency allocation framework .

Implications for Manufacturers and Importers

Manufacturers must carefully review the updated ATT list to determine whether their products now fall within the scope of mandatory homologation. Any equipment included in the published categories must obtain formal approval before it can be legally imported, distributed, or commercialized in Bolivia.

Failure to secure homologation can result in customs delays, market access restrictions, or enforcement actions. Proactive regulatory review is therefore essential when planning new product launches or expanding into the Bolivian market.

Global Validity supports manufacturers through the full homologation lifecycle in Bolivia, from product scope evaluation and documentation review to submission management and ongoing regulatory monitoring. As ATT continues refining its technical oversight framework, ensuring your products remain aligned and up to date with national requirements is critical to maintaining uninterrupted market access.
