On May 5, 2025, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued a notice postponing a previously announced mandate that would have required all ISM band Wi-Fi routers to support both the 2.4–2.483 GHz and 5.725–5.850 GHz frequency bands. Originally slated for enforcement following a directive on November 7, 2024, the regulation is now suspended for three months, until August 4, 2025.

Scope of the Regulation
The postponed requirement applied to the production, import, and marketing of ISM band Wi-Fi routers in Bangladesh. The intent was to standardize equipment performance and ensure broader interoperability across common Wi-Fi frequency ranges. These two bands are critical to both consumer and enterprise wireless connectivity.
Public Interest Cited as Reason for Delay
The BTRC cited public interest as the basis for this temporary suspension. While the directive remains active, enforcement is deferred to provide stakeholders—such as manufacturers, importers, and distributors—additional time to comply with the dual-band requirement.
This delay may also serve to mitigate disruptions in the supply chain and allow for smoother market adaptation to the new technical standard.
