On March 13, 2025, Albania’s Electronic Communications Agency adopted new rules regarding the use of radio frequencies that can be used without a radio frequency use permit. This update aligns the country’s regulations with the standards set by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications (CEPT) and other international agreements accepted by the Republic of Albania.

Overview of the New Regulation

The newly adopted regulation specifies the radio frequencies that can be used without requiring a formal radio frequency usage authorization. These frequencies are consistent with international rules and are aimed at simplifying the regulatory process for specific radio communications equipment, ensuring that they can be used without administrative hurdles.

Key Provisions of the Rulebook

  • Applicable Frequencies: The regulation determines which radio frequencies can be used without a permit, as detailed in the annex to the rulebook.
  • Alignment with International Standards: The rulebook is in line with the guidelines set by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications (CEPT) and other relevant international agreements that Albania has adopted.

Transition from Previous Regulation

The new regulation replaces the Regulation on Radio Frequencies from December 10, 2021, which had been in effect prior to this update. As of the date the new regulation takes effect, the previous regulation will no longer be valid. The full regulation can be found by clicking here.

The regulation is effective as soon as it is published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of North Macedonia. After its publication, the rules will be available on the Electronic Communications Agency website for further reference.
